When you have dinner at a restaurant you are not familiar with, you may not know what to order. When this happens, you can ask the waiter what is the house specialty. In this online mandarin lesson, you will also learn to express wishes and requests.

Ni hao!!!! When Mike in the dialogue asks: "Wǒ yào hē yì píng píjiǔ, Wáng Lì, nǐ ne?" I expected Wang Li to answer "Wǒ yě yào" Why does he answer "Wǒ yě shì"? Would "Wǒ yě yào" be a correct way to answer too?? XIE XIE!!

"Wǒ yě yào." is also a correct answer. And you can also say"Wǒ yě yào hē."

Would it be grammatically incorrect to ask "Nin xiang he shenme?" instead of "Nin xiang he dian shenme?" I'm confused about the purpose of the word 点儿 in the example sentences.

Hi elevator, These two sentences are correct and mean the same thing, “what would you like to drink?" The word “点儿” does not add a different meaning, but is a way to sound more polite.
