Helen Zhang (Chinese Teacher) says
Chinese phrase “连...也/都(lián…yě/dōu)” can be translated into English as “even” . It is used to show a surprising tone of speaker. It indicates that something that should have happened as usual, but did/does not happen. For examples: Wǒ tài máng le, lián wǔ fàn dōu méi chī. 我太忙了,连午饭都没吃。 I was too busy, I didn’t even have lunch. Nǐ tài lǎn le, lián yīfú dōu bù xǐ. 你太懒了,连衣服都不洗. You are so lazy, you didn't even wash the clothes.
