Chinese Test Answer
Learn How to Speak the Mandarin Phrase- “穿小鞋 (chuān xiăo xié)”
The correct answer for this Chinese quiz is C.
Read the dialogue again:
                   Nĭ zĕnme le?
        Liu Lei: 你  怎么  了?
                     What’s up?
Ài,  jīnglĭ zuìjìn jīngcháng gĕi wŏ chuān xiăo xié.
Wang Feng: 唉,经理 最近    经常       给  我    穿     小  鞋。
Well, my manager has been giving me a hard time recently.
                    Wèishénme ya?
         Liu Lei:    为什么     呀?
                     Why?
Yīnwèi shàng zhōu wŏ hé tā chăo jià le.
Wang Feng:   因为    上       周   我  和 他  吵   架 了。
Because we had an argument last week.
Analysis:
The verb “穿 (chuān)” means "to put on" or "to wear." For example, “穿衣服 (chuān yīfu)” means "to put on clothes." “小 (Xiăo)” means “small” in English and “鞋 (xié)” refers to “shoes.” “穿小鞋 (chuān xiăo xié)” literally means to wear on a pair of small shoes. Actually, it indicates to purposely give someone a hard time. It particularly refers to getting revenge behind someone’s back by using power. In the dialogue, Wang Feng had an argument with his manager the previous week. The manager, in turn, has been giving him a hard time.
Example:
Nǐ gǎn dézuì lǎobǎn, bú pà tā gěi nǐ chuān xiǎo xié ma?
你  敢   得罪   老板,不 怕 他 给  你    穿    小   鞋 吗?
You've got the nerve to offend the boss? Aren't you afraid that he’ll give you a hard time?

Discussion

I have learned Survival Chinese courses here for a week and noticed that in Lesson 4 of the Survival Chinese course there is the measure word "个." The usage of this is not very clear to me? Could you explain it? Thanks!
